Saudi Arabia Orders Ban on “Gays & Tom-boys”

The fanatically religious Sunni Muslim kingdom of Saudi Arabia would like to banish LGBT people from their culture and society.  While being gay is already a capital crime in the desert state that includes the holiest sites in Islam, government officials are taking government intolerance for LGBT people a step further.  The monarchy has asked its Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice to actively enforce a ban on “gays and tom-boys.”

According to the Arabic newspaper Sharq, instructions have been issued “to all public schools and universities to ban the entry of gays and tom boys and to intensify their efforts to fight this phenomenon, which has been promoted by some websites.”

Obviously, the internet has inspired many LGBT people in Saudi Arabia to more openly identify themselves in a country that prides itself in being one of the most rigidly traditional countries in the Muslim world.  According to Emirates247.com, the Commission that has been asked to carry-out these instructions  is “the most feared law enforcement authority” in Saudi Arabia.

Many Americans have not forgotten the shocking response of  Ahmud Ahmadinjad who, while attending the opening of the UN General Assembly in

Two gay teens were recently hung in Iran for engaging in "forbidden acts."

September, 2007,was asked about LGBT rights in his country.  The President of Iran proudly declared that there were no homosexuals in Iran. Such ludicrous thinking is endemic of a culture that is incapable of responding to, let alone acknowledging facts that challenge age-old ideas about the human condition.

Much of the Muslim world will have to shut down the internet in their respective countries and ban all international travel if they think they can promote a society that discourage their citizens from pursuing the same rights and liberties being enjoyed by  other citizens of the world.

And as all rational people know, you can’t impose sexual orientation.  At worst, religious fanatics who control countries like Saudi Arabia will push LGBT people further into the proverbial closet, if not to suicide.
